In many people’s opinion, the greatest voice to ever sing a country song has gone silent. To us at the Musicians Hall of Fame, George was not only the greatest stylist in country music, he was also a great friend. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to Nancy Jones. Nancy was truly George’s right hand. If you love George Jones, then you owe a debt of gratitude to Nancy for the past 30 years. Billy Sherrill, who produced “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, “The Grand Tour”, “The Door”, “Picture of Me Without You”, “Golden Rings”, etc., was once asked “Who was the greatest producer when it comes to country music?”. His response was “There’s Owen Bradley and then there is the rest of us.” Perhaps the same should be said when it comes to the discussion of greatest country singers. “There’s George Jones and then there’s everybody else.
